Atlanta, Georgia, experiences a humid subtropical climate characterized by four distinct seasons: hot, humid summers; mild winters; and transitional periods of spring and fall.

Spring (March to May): Spring in Atlanta brings gradually warming temperatures, with average highs ranging from the mid-60s°F (18°C) in March to the upper 70s°F (25°C) in May. This season is marked by blooming flora and is ideal for outdoor activities.

Summer (June to August): Summers are typically hot and humid. July is the hottest month, with average temperatures around 81°F (27°C). Highs often reach the 90s°F (32–37°C), and the city occasionally experiences temperatures exceeding 100°F (38°C). Afternoon thunderstorms are common, providing brief respites from the heat.

Fall (September to November): Autumn offers cooler temperatures and lower humidity. Average highs decrease from the low 80s°F (27°C) in September to the mid-60s°F (18°C) by November. This season is favored for its pleasant weather and vibrant foliage.

Winter (December to February): Winters are generally mild, with January being the coldest month, averaging overnight lows around 33.5°F (1°C). Snowfall is rare, but occasional light snow or ice storms can occur.

Recent studies indicate that Atlanta's winters are becoming warmer due to climate change, resulting in fewer days with below-freezing temperatures. This trend affects winter recreation opportunities and may impact water supplies during warmer seasons.
